SAM is the musculo-skeletal modelling package for Matlab. SAM is a Simulink S-function block developed by Marlbrook.

SAM is currently being used in Universities round the world for research and teaching. The short learning curve of SAM makes it particularly suitable for teaching biomechanics at undergraduate level.    Click here for examples of SAM being used for teaching

The human model in SAM consists of:
666 muscle units in 196 distinct muscles, 35 joints and 36 segments

The SAM Simulink block can be incorporated into any Simulink model. The input to SAM are Simulink signals representing segmental masses, forces acting on the body segments in global and local co-ordinate systems together with joint angles.

The output from SAM are graphics and tabulated data of muscle forces, muscle lengths and the external work and energy of each muscle.

Graphics packages provide synchronous illustration of the muscle loading as bulging, colour coded plots during model solution and a post processing package which can display muscle loading and printed output at a single mouse click.

System requirements:
Matlab 7.5 or later
Simulink Version 7.0 or later
